You will get it wrong...trust me.
So, here is the deal.
You are going to fail. I can guarantee it. If you do not make failing as a step in part of your path to success online then you are only setting yourself up to lose in the long run...notice I said lose and not fail.
Now that you know that you are going to fail, you can plan for it and use it to your advantage.
Really...
Here are my top three tips on how to fail and still win:
- Have a clear objective - Without a clear objective it is impossible to know when you have failed or succeeded. In the begining of your project be sure to have a crystal clear vision on what you want to accomplish and set up your metrics to track your failures along the way to that goal.
- Be flexible - By being flexible I am referring to your plan on getting to your objective, not the objective itself. In the beginning you may have a very good idea to get to where you want to go, but be real with the results and be flexible in changing your plan to adapt to what you have learned through the process. The more flexible you are and the more nimbly you adapt your plan to fit what you are seeing in the numbers, the quicker you will get to achieving your objective.
- Do not fear failure - Failure is simply a part of the process. Do not let it intimidate you. You have overcome it your whole life growing up, no need to stop now that you are in the big game. You most likely fell dozens of times while learning to walk, pronounced words wrong, spelled them wrong, fell off your bike, dropped the pass, failed a test, lost a game, etc. but you ended walking, talking, spelling, riding, catching, passing and yes...winning. Your whole life you have overcome failures. You actually are most likely a professional failure by the time you graduate high school!
Finally, if at the end of the day your objective was not reached and you have to move on, do just that...move on to the next challenge and take the lessons that you learned from your previous failure with you.
If it doesn't kill you it only makes you stronger!
